Cuillin Reflection,
Glen Brittle Beach

Another photograph taken on commission, I was required to capture an image of the beach at Glenbrittle on Skye for a wedding present (the couple had become engaged on this beach). The beach is in a stunning location, positioned directly below the mighty Cuillin ridge. However, due to the volcanic rock rendering the sand on the beach a grey-black colour, I immediately felt that a beach-level composition that was both attractive and immediately recogniseable was going to be tricky — and I set off up the mountainside opposite for a high viewpoint overlooking the bay with the ridge behind. In the end, those photographs really didn’t work — but this one from the beach itself came out a treat. Its funny how it works out sometimes, and just goes to show what I know about black sand.
