Cove Bay Treasure Trove

Cove Bay, near Hopeman on the Moray coast is rightly famous for its astonishing array of coloured stones, sitting atop an almost luminous sandstone pavement. Finding the best stones collections, however, requires a low tide — the sandstone cliffs have been undermined by wave action, resulting in low, wide, cave–like overhangs. The pavement thus produced is eroded further into canyons, which in turn collect a multitude of these ocean–polished rocks of all colours and sizes.
