God Rays over Rhum and Eigg, near Arisaig

I love the stretch of coastline traced by the beautiful old road between Arisaig and Mallaig in Morar, beyond Fort William. The beaches have a very high coral and shell content, so the sand is a brilliant white. The views to the Hebridean Isles of Rhum and Eigg are essentially unrivalled. Perhaps best of all, no one else ever seems to be there.

I also love crepuscular rays — the scientific term for these shafts of light from the heavens. I was treated to this spectacular lightshow for at least 20 minutes before the bad weather finally caught me and I was engulfed in a heady mix of gale-swept sand, rain and sea-spray.
